Basic Profile & History
Founded in 1918 as Beijing Central Hospital, PKUPH is the first general Western medicine hospital independently funded and managed by Chinese people. Dr. Wu Lien-teh, the pioneer of modern medicine in China, served as its first president.
1918: Established as Beijing Central Hospital
1946: Renamed to Zhonghe Hospital
1985: Renamed to People's Hospital of Beijing Medical University
2000: Renamed to Peking University People's Hospital after merger
2019: Designated as National Clinical Research Center for Hematologic Diseases
2021: Approved as National Trauma Medical Center
